Who's behind this
Musterlog is built and run by Abdul Khalique. It's a small operation, and you should know that from the start.
Why it exists
Martyn's Law is easy to comply with once and hard to keep complying with. Writing the procedures is quick. Keeping them current for the next year, across sites nobody has time to visit, is where it tends to slip.
Most of the software turning up around this law is sold to individual venues at a low monthly price. That's fine for a single pub. But if you answer for four hundred of them, it leaves you with nothing: no group view, and no way of knowing every site is covered.
It isn't a compliance guarantee, a certification scheme, a consultancy or a security assessment. No supplier can make a venue compliant with Martyn's Law, and no product is endorsed by the Home Office or the SIA. Musterlog keeps records. The duty stays with the responsible person.
The case against buying from a small supplier
It's a fair one. A one-person company can stop existing. There's no support rota, no ISO certification and no reference customers with ten years of history. If your procurement process puts a lot of weight on those things, larger suppliers exist and you should use one.
The case for
You can export everything you put in, at any time, in a format that doesn't need us to read it. If Musterlog disappeared tomorrow, you'd still have your procedures, training records and drill logs. We can't promise we'll always be here, so it's built so that matters less if we're not.
You also talk to the person who builds it, changes happen in days, and nobody's chasing a sales target.
How it's being built
Slowly, and against a gate. Three pilot groups have to sign letters of intent before any money is spent on the build. A records product with no real estate behind it ends up built around guesswork, not what an operations director needs at half four on a Friday.
If those three pilots don't appear, the demand isn't there and the right thing is to stop. That rule is written down and dated.
Things we won't do
- Say that any product makes anyone compliant.
- Claim an endorsement from the Home Office, the SIA or any trade body. None exists for any product.
- Take commission from an insurer or broker. Commission tied to policies could make this insurance distribution, which needs FCA authorisation. Why the broker model is a licence.
- Sell you this if a free template and a folder would do. The pricing page says so too.
Musterlog isn't a registered company yet. Musterlog Ltd is in formation in England. Registration with the Information Commissioner's Office follows, and will be in place before any customer records are held. We'll only list them here as facts once they're true. Contact: abu@musterlog.co.uk.
